Highland Park, one of the top 10 most exclusive and expensive suburbs in the Nation, is located at the heart of Dallas, only 2 miles from downtown Dallas Arts District. Well connected to the neighbouring towns and cities by the US Route 75 or the North Central Expressway and the Dallas North Tollway, the town boasts some of the most expensive and luxurious homes and estates in the country. 5.8 square km area was originally bought by the Philadelphia Land Place Association in the late 19th century, consisting of a group of investors, and christened Philadelphia Place, with the intention of turning it into an exclusive luxury real estate development that would focus towards the wealthy and local aristocrats. Economic problems, however, brought the plan to a halt, and the beautiful lake-and-forested landscape soon became a hub for picnickers. The attraction of the area began to grow again and was realized in 1906 by developer Johns S. Armstrong who bought a large piece of the original Philadelphia Place land which began Highland Park. As the steady influx of new families into the region led to the incorporation of the town in 1915.
