The Colony, Denton County, Texas

The city is a tiny city, no more than 41.7 square km in perimeter. With a population of 42,721, per the calculation made in the 2017 census estimates, The Colony is a prime example of how much fun a small community can be. The self-proclaimed paying vacation destination of the country, The Colony boasts a variety activities that keep the residents busy and fulfilled throughout the year, making it a huge attraction for tourists too. The Colony real estate scene is pretty much bustling, a trend that has been carried forward from the time of its foundation back in the 1960s, when an estate development firm, Fox and Jacobs, chose to buy a plot around the Farm to Market Road 423 and State Highway 121, both of which have gone through major expansion in the past few years.

The land was then developed into a model city based on the lines of Dallas. Initially supplied with water, electricity, cable and telephone by the neighboring cities via the local municipal corporation, the region became incorporated into the county; soon afterwards, a merger with Eastville resulted in a bigger population and area, and the demand for The Colony homes began to grow exponentially through the 70’s and 80’s.

The Colony Real Estate

One of the biggest incentives of investing in real estate in The Colony is definitely the low cost of living in the area. A comparatively older town when compared to its neighbor Frisco, established in 1969, The Colony is still growing due to FM423 and 121’s connectivity to the surrounding region. Naturally, the cost of The Colony homes for sale is comparatively lower due to the age and modesty of many of the homes in the surrounding area.

The city has become a major attraction for tourists, thanks to the fact that it is great hub for club hoppers and sports lovers alike. In 2015, Nebraska Furniture Mart opened over ½ a million sqft of retail that has anchored a entertainment and restaurant district. Naturally, this has led to quite a lot of tax revenue being generated that has supported the recent modernization and rejuvenation of the city.
